I am writing to invite you to a gala event benefiting Education Through Music-Los Angeles (ETM-LA) on Monday, October 19. ETM-LA is a stakeholder in the LA Philharmonic's new YOLA movement, and as a local nonprofit, works to bring music education to schools across LA. The evening begins at 6:30 and will feature a rare concert appearance by Johnny Mathis at the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood, along with Patti Austin, Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, and Justin Guarini. They are coming together to help bring ETM's special brand of music education to southern California: one that partners with schools to make music lessons (e.g., violin, guitar, etc.) a part of the basic school day for EVERY CHILD in school, no matter what their income. Schools in your readership are currently partnering with ETM-LA, and we would be thrilled for any local print or web exposure your publication could offer - I would be happy to forward a press release to that end. It looks like we'll have sellout crowd. 10/19/09 6:14 PM	Awesome. I'm so sorry you guys, but I couldn't make this one. I tried to talk hubby into it, and I almost did, but I also knew he wasn't the main problem. I've had this trial trailing along, for a month now, with everyone saying they're going to be ready NEXT TIME we meet. Of course that's tomorrow morning, and sure enough, I've got a jury panel coming in tomorrow, 8:30 a.m. sharp. I have to be ready, I have a whole night of prep work ahead of me. I really wanted to go to this one too, because I LOVE Patti, LOVE Johnny Mathis, and of course I'm crazy for J. But I just can't swing it. Sorry! (Maybe Mjane or Kathy or someone flew out for this? It kind of reminds me of the Bert Bacharach tribute concert. Hopefully, someone there takes pics and puts them on the net! :) I have to say, Patti Austin is looking AMAZING these days. I remember her as a brunette, a little chubby. I had to look her up because I thought, is this the same Patti Austin, jazz vocalist extraordinaire, or is there another person with the same name! I learned she has lost a tremendous amount of weight and totally remade herself. She looks absolutely fantastic!

To be on the same bill with Patti Austin, AND Johnny Mathis .... what an honor. And they said he'd be hosting, they didn't tell he'd be performing too! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! After giving out autographs, Justin gave the young performers some inspirational words: ''We are all here because of you. That is what this evening is all about and we are here rooting for you. Just be confident - you'll be great." Justin charmed the crowd with his warm and winsome personality, and reminded guests to be generous for a cause with which he is deeply passionate about. An advocate on Capitol Hill for music education, Justin has garnered praise for his extraordinary role as a supporter and promoter for music in our nation's schools, including a NAMM (National Association of Musical Merchants) ''Music for Life'' Award in 2006 for his work in promoting music education. The ETM-LA gala recognized two honorees with Shining Star Awards: music educator Vincent Houser as well as Grammy-Winning Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band for their inspiration and excellence in the field of music education. The event raised over $60,000 to help support ETM-LA's string, guitar, recorder, and general music lessons for every child in its underserved partner schools.
